Xavi’s Statement

“Pjanic has decided to leave for more opportunities- he has always been a great professional, so I think he had chances here but everyone chooses their own path”.

How was the transfer possible with the market being closed?

The transfer of the Barcelona midfielder to Sharjah FC was possible as in some countries / leagues  the markets are still open so they are allowed to complete signings even though the top European leagues market is closed. Barcelona had released the 32 year old as a free agent to join Sharjah FC.

The Bosnian’s time at the Catalan Club

Pjanic had been loaned to Besiktas in the previous season and leaves Barcelona with only 30 appearances, the midfielders contract was just written off when it was due to run until June 2024. The salary rules imposed by La Liga had caused a desperation in the Camp Nou to get players off their wage list , the Blaugrana could not register some of the signings, contract renewals and players until some players were off. Pjanic and Depay being one of them.
