Sunil Kumar is a popular Indian Kabaddi player renowned for his defensive prowess in the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL). His Kabaddi journey started with numerous victories at the Junior Nationals in 2015 and 2016, catching the attention of scouts from Patna Pirates, who signed him for the PKL season 4. In 2023, Kumar represented India at the 2022 Asian Games, a significant milestone in his career. His contributions were instrumental in securing a gold medal for the Indian team, notably in the fiercely contested final against Iran. 

Kumar’s consistent performance and defensive skills have made him a key asset both in domestic leagues and international competitions, earning him admiration and respect within the kabaddi community.

Background 

Sunil Kumar was born on May 12, 1997, into a farming family in Bhainswal Kalan, Sonipat District, Haryana. Growing up amidst agricultural landscapes, he found inspiration in his cousins, particularly Parvesh Bhainswal, who were actively involved in playing kabaddi. At the age of 11, Sunil embarked on his kabaddi journey, influenced by the passion and dedication of his relatives.

Career

Sunil’s talent in kabaddi sparkled during university competitions, where he showcased exceptional skill and determination. His performances caught the eye of coach Jaivir Sharma, who recognized his potential and facilitated his entry into the Sports Authority of India training center in Ahmedabad. 

Under the guidance of experienced mentors and within the structured environment of the training center, Sunil refined his technique and strategic prowess. Through dedication and rigorous training, he emerged as a formidable kabaddi player, transcending his rural roots to become a promising talent in the Indian kabaddi circuit.
