Under Uwe Horn’s guidance in 2018, Neeraj Chopra secured gold medals at the Asian Games and the Commonwealth Games. However, in 2020, Neeraj decided to switch up his training approach, leading to the appointment of Klaus Bartonietz as his head coach. Their dedication bore fruit when Neeraj achieved victories in Portugal and Sweden in 2021, setting the stage for the Tokyo Olympics.
On August 7, 2021, Neeraj Chopra made history by winning the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics with a throw of 87.58 meters. This achievement marked a significant milestone for Indian athletics, as Neeraj became the first Indian to secure a gold medal in athletics at the Olympics.
Post the Olympic triumph, Neeraj Chopra, under Klaus Bartonietz’s guidance, continued to find success. In August 2023, he became the first Indian athlete to win a gold medal at the World Athletics Championships, throwing 88.17 meters. Neeraj then defended his gold at the Asian Games in September 2023 with a throw of 88.88 meters.
