Jordan Henderson: Former Liverpool captain joins Dutch heavyweights AFC Ajax, after failing Saudi test

Former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson, who had led the club to their historic Premier League and UEFA Champions League triumph, has reportedly left Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Ettifaq to ply his trade with Dutch giants Ajax. Jordan Henderson – a midfield metronome

Jordan Henderson has been one of the biggest names when it comes to Liverpool’s legendary throng of midfielders. Following the footsteps of Steven Gerrard, the tall, well-built star had a flashy debut with the Reds against his former club Sunderland, being greeted with mixed reception from the fans. He was renowned for scoring world-class goals from the middle of the ground, which had earned him the reputation of a high-scoring midfielder, thus leading the side from the front. He had found the back of the net more than 50 times in his decade-long illustrious Liverpool career, and has had achieved several laurels with the Merseyside team.

Last year, he had decided to join his former teammate Steven Gerrard at Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Ettifaq, who was brought on deck to manage the side. But, he has had several fall-out issues with his teammates and club officials, which included some controversies related to LGBTQ rights, and as a result, he was compelled to terminate his contract at Al-Ettifaq, a side which is currently reeling on the 8th position, faring on a mediocre basis, mustering 25 points from 19 games.

Right Move for the Englishman?

AFC Ajax, who are rather enduring a difficult season according to their caliber, standing on the fifth spot of Eredivisie, would be delighted to secure the services of the legendary English midfielder, who exuberance and finesse might help the Dutch giants pull out of the pit they are currently in. The former UEFA Champions League semifinalists have mustered 28 points from 17 games, and are currently 23 points adrift of leaders PSV.

The move to Ajax might help Henderson to get his form back, as the former Reds captain would look to strengthen his position ahead of the European championships, scheduled this year, which would be held in Germany. His medical is set to take place on Thursday, as Hendo- one of the prestigious midfielders in England would look to get game ready from the first game. He would be seen sporting the Ajax colors till 2026, having a two-and-a-half year contract, as his move is mostly contributed mostly between the parties of player and club officials.
