Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ankit Bawne score centuries

After tumbling the record books by hitting 7 sixes in an over and carrying his bat through with 220* in the quarter finals, he stamped his authority with another swashbuckling 168 in the semis today as he took Maharashtra to the finals of the current edition of the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

It was class written all over those 168 runs , as he went about mounting those runs against the Assam bowling attack in disdain. He now has 11 centuries in the tournament , a record highest shared only with Robin Uthappa, apart from his centurion partner for today’s game, Ankit Bawane.

Although overshadowed a bit by his skipper’s performance, but Ankit Bawane’s 110 of 89 balls was a treat to watch. Laced with 10 hits to the fence and 2 of them outside it, while stitching a partnership of 206 with his co-centurion in the game, they made the opposition look like a pack of headless chickens.

Resting on the shoulders of this dynamic duo, Maharashtra posed a score of 350 in their allotted 50 overs. Even though the Assam team put up a brave show , they eventually succumbed to the pressure and fell agonizingly short by 12 runs.
