Mahela Jayawardene take up a global role for domestic T20 teams after letting go of role in the Southern Braves

Mahela Jayawardene, one of the best Sri Lankan batsman, who also had a successful stint as a coach for domestic T20 leagues, is all set for a new assignment on a bigger spectrum. He will now be the Head of Global Performance, not only for a single team but for all the teams of the Mumbai Indians and it’s associated franchises.

Jayawardene had somewhat of a dream run as coach for the Mumbai Indians in the IPL where he had successfully guided the team to lift the Trophy thrice, since his appointment in 2017. Incidentally, Reliance group, who is the current owner of the Mumbai Indians team, also have their own teams in the Emirates league ( ILT20) named as Mumbai Emirates and the South African domestic league ( SAT20) that goes by the name MI Cape Town.

Mahela will now be responsible for the strategic planning and the overall performance of all the teams. He is currently designated as the coach of the Southern Braves, one of the teams competing in the domestic T20 league in England. He has successfully led this team to be crowned as the champions in the inaugural edition of the 100, the domestic T20 league in England.

However, the recent performance of the Southern Braves in has left a lot to be desired as they finished 7th amongst 8 teams in the tournament. The lackluster performance was mainly due the bowlers being unavailable or injured. With a lot on the plate for the maverick batsman and with the trust that he is surely up to the task, we wish him all the success in his new role !
