The 9th season of Pro Kabaddi League has come to an end. And we are moving ever so closer to the final of PKL9. But before we do that, do you know what really the PKL semifinals are?

What is PKL 9 Semifinal?
Unlike any tournament where the top four teams of a robin round directly qualify to the semifinals, PKL9 has a different system. In Pro Kabaddi teams are required to play in a playoff before making their way to the semifinals.
But this is not true for every team. Yes, you have guessed it right. There are 6 teams in PKL that make it out of the league stage. And only two get directly in the PKL9 semifinal. The rest four have to partake in playoffs that start from 13th of December.
There will be two playoffs that will decide the other two teams to take part in PKL9 semifinals.
Format of PKL9 Semifinals
The format of Pro Kabaddi semis is very simple. The two teams that have already qualified on the top of the table will get a direct berth in semifinals. There they will be met by the two out of four teams that played in the playoffs.
So, for PKL9 Jaipur Pink Panthers and Puneri Paltan have already qualified. They will play against the winner of the eliminators between Delhi, Chennai, Bengaluru, and UP.
Which teams have qualified for Semifinal of PKL9?
According to the rules of the tournament it is the top two teams from the league stage that are automatically qualified for the semifinals. Meaning that they won’t be required to play in the Playoffs before earning a place in the quarterfinals.

The first semifinal will be between two teams that have won the trophy in the past. Jaipur Pink Panthers were the winner in the inaugural edition of Pro Kabaddi League.
Bengaluru Bulls on the other hand won their first title in Season 6 of the tournament. They defeated debutante Gujarat Giants in the final to clinch this trophy.

In the second match of the night, Puneri Paltan and Tamil Thalivas will take on each other in the PKL9 Semifinal. Both the teams have never won the tournament in the past. In fact this is the first time that Tamil Thalivas have reached the playoffs.
