Yuzvendra Chahal reveals reason behind his departure from RCB

The mega auction ahead of the 15th edition of IPL saw several players’ departure from their long-time clubs. Yuzvendra Chahal was one of them.

The right arm leg spinner has been renowned as a hardcore RCB player. He has been a part of the team for almost eight years now. Since his debut for RCB back in 2014, Chahal has represented the team in 113 matches. And took 139 wickets in the competition.

This saw him become an integral part of the team. After Virat Kohli, he was the most popular Indian player in the RCB squad.

However, the 2022 mega auction changed everything.

It was nothing less than a shock for fans as they saw their favorite player not getting retained by RCB.

What devastated them was that RCB failed to repurchase him later. The fact that Rajasthan Royals bought Chahal appalled the fans.

This was followed by a severe outrage by the fans on social media. They went on to the extent of accusing Chahal of being greedy to opt for auction.

After almost four months of outrage, the spinner finally decided to open up about the snub.

Chahal reveals the reasons behind his departure

In an interview with Times of India, Chahal revealed the reason behind his departure from RCB. He mentioned some details regarding the franchise’s future plans for him.

“I am emotionally attached to RCB. I never thought I would play for some other team,” Chahal said. “People and fans on social media are still asking me, ‘why did you ask for this much money?’ The reality is that Mike Hesson called me and said, ‘listen, Yuzi, there are three retentions.”

Besides, Chahal was told that although the team cannot retain him right now, they will be going for him in the auction.

‘Neither was I asked about money nor did I get any offer of retention,’ Chahal concluded. He also added that he would forever remain loyal to his RCB fanbase.

The 31-year-old is all set to make his debut for Rajasthan Royals on Tuesday. He was a part of the franchise back in 2010 but failed to play a single game for them.

This time he will certainly be on the team sheet as the Royals take on Sunrisers in their season opener.
