Ranji Trophy: Tamil Nadu nearly pulls off miracle chase of 144 as Jagadeesan, Sai Sudharshan score 93 in 6 overs

Another heartbreak from the sporting world comes in the form of a drawn Ranji Trophy match between Tamil Nadu and Hyderabad on Friday where poor light stopped Tamil Nadu from clinching a historic victory.

Some context to the game: Tamil Nadu had brilliant outing in the first inning of their game against Hyderabad. Chasing the lead of 395 runs, they smashed prolific 510 runs in just 111.5 overs (Centuries by Sai Sudarshan, Jagadeesan, and Aparajith).

Hyderabad in response piled up another total of 258 runs in their second inning. Giving themselves a lead of 144 runs on the final day of the match.

Tamil Nadu fought hard to win the game

Now, Tamil Nadu came in to chase the total down in the remaining overs of Day 4. With less than 20 overs remaining in the day, Sai Sudharshan and Jagadeesan took on the task of taking their team over the line.

Both the openers switched to T20 mode right from the get go. Dealing just in sixes, they cruised on to 93 runs just in 6.1 overs. Sai Sudarshan was the batter who took charge earlier on and smoked 42 runs off 20 balls with 5 sixes.

Jagadeesan later joined the party and scored a total of 59 runs in 22 balls with the help of 13 sixes that he smacked all around the park. The bowlers of Hyderabad couldn’t stop the phenomenon that was unfolding in front of them.

It would have been a historic win for Tamil Nadu has the bad light not intervened.

With 38 runs required from just 4 overs, the Umpires decided to call it a day. Citing bad light as a reason, taking away the chance from Tamil Nadu’s grasp to register an outright win.

However, they still walk away with three points for their massive first inning win.

Sai Sudarshan was adjudged as the man of the match for his 179 in first inning and 42 in the second.
