Dhoni steps down as captain of CSK; Jadeja to lead the team next season

It seems to be the beginning of the end of an era as Mahendra Singh Dhoni finally steps down as the captain of Chennai Super Kings.

After being in the midst of speculation for the best part of the past two years, the former Indian captain has finally decided to hand over the role to Ravindra Jadeja.

In an interview with ESPN Cricinfo, the CEO of CSK cleared the air about Dhoni’s decision. Vishwanathan said, “Dhoni was thinking about it… he feels Jaddu is also in the prime form of his career and it is the ideal time for him (to) lead CSK.”

Unforgettable legacy of Dhoni

This decision of his can be seen as an indication of the inevitable retirement decision from the game itself. However, the fans will be glad that they will get to see him in action in the charismatic yellow colours of CSK.

After playing 204 matches for CSK, this will be the first time the fans see him play only as a player, right from the beginning of a season. It remains unclear whether this will be Dhoni’s last season. But surely, he is preparing the franchise to continue without him in the future.

That being said, Dhoni has created an unforgettable legacy behind him that will remain long after he is gone. He is the only captain to have played over 200 matches for a single franchise and led a team to victory four times. Not only that, but he is also the second most successful captain with a winning percentage of 59.6.

Ravindra Jadeja will become the only third captain of CSK after Dhoni and Raina. He has been an integral part of the CSK team since 2012. He has seen his side win 3 out of four titles and will be keen to add another to the tally.
