The Indian contingent is having a blast in the commonwealth games. And they have two more medals from the Triple jump event to show for it. This time it is Eldhose Paul who won the gold medal, while his compatriot Abdulla Aboobacker won a silver in the same event.

Eldhose Paul’s gold jump and Aboobacker’s silver leap

Eldhose did not have the best start to his campaign. He could only manage to cover 14.62 meters in his first attempt. And looked very disappointed after that. He immediately bounced back in his second jump to register 16.30 meters. It was his third attempt in which he broke his personal best of 16.99 meters. Paul jumped a distance of 17.03 meters to establish himself at the top of the table.

Aboobacker, on the other hand, had a moderate start to his campaign, with 16.57 meters in his first attempt. He only got better with every effort he made. His successive attempts scaled 16.63, 1670.

In his fourth attempt, he managed to cover a distance of 17.02 meters. This jump secured him the silver medal’s spot on the podium. In the final attempt, he failed to cross his friend’s record. And had to settle for a silver.

Great outing for Indian athletes in CWG 2022

With this victory, India registered their first gold at CWG in the triple jump event. Earlier, they had two bronze and 1 silver. Now they managed to win a gold and a silver in the same campaign, which again is a record in itself.

India had another jumper in the form of Praveen Chitravel, who finished fourth with 16.92 meters.

Eldhose Paul has filled in the shoes of Neeraj Chopra who was the gold medal contender for India. Abdul Aboobacker’s silver on the other hand is a huge bonus for Indian contingent.

India now has medals galore from the athletics team. They earlier won a medal each in the Long jump, high jump, and women’s 10,000 walk race. Now they have registered two medals in the triple jump alone.

This strong performance in the tournament has put them in a prime position to get closer to their best tally of 101 medals in Delhi CWG 2010.
