The top gun from the northern provinces, Umran Malik, has claimed his first fifer in IPL. It came in the encounter between SRH and Gujarat Titans, where Malik dented the top order of mighty Gujarat.
Umran Malik has been a top talent this season. He has been known for his serious pace. However, everyone thought that he lacked one thing: accuracy. But today, the bowler proved everyone wrong by claiming four ‘bowled’ dismissals.
He came into the bowl in the 8th over when Gujarat Titans were bossing the game. They both had their openers set and geared up to chase down the massive total. That is when Umran Malik claimed his first wicket in the form of a set-looking Shubhman Gill.
This wicket was soon followed by the priced wicket of Hardik Pandya in the very next over. Pandya has been in sublime form this season. With three fifties from 7 innings, he is the second-highest run-getter in the season. But Umran made it look easy to dismiss the Gujarat captain.
Umran then dismissed the set batter in the form of Wriddhiman Saha. The wicketkeeper batter was already batting at 68, yet, Umran found a way to his timber.
Then he claimed his fourth and fifth scalps in the same over in the form of Miller and Manohar to claim his maiden fifer in IPL.
With this fifer, he registered the third-best figures by an uncapped player in the IPL. Malik also became the only second bowler to take a fifer for Surisers Hyderabad.
Umran Mailk’s efforts in vain
Despite an outstanding performance by Malik, his team couldn’t seal the deal in the end. With 22 runs required from the last over, everyone expected Marco Jansen to seal the deal.
But Rashid Khan had other plans, as he smashed two sixes off the last ball to take his side home.
