Tim Paine Calls Time on an 18-year Domestic Career ; Plays his final match for Tasmania Tigers

Former Australia Test captain Tim Paine has announced his retirement from domestic cricket following the conclusion of Tasmania’s Marsh Sheffield Shield match against Queensland at Blundstone Arena.

He walked through a guard of honour on the final day of his career for Tasmania and got pretty emotional. Paine led Australia in a handful of Test matches after sandpaper saga and also created history by retaining the Ashes in England.

The Hobart-born Paine represented Tasmania over 18 years after debuting in 2005, playing 154 first-class matches.

Overall, Paine played 35 Tests, 35 ODIs and 12 T20Is for his country while featuring in a mammoth 154 FC games, 136 List A and 81 T20 matches during his career that last for almost two decades.

“He has been a phenomenal player, it is an incredible effort to have the longevity that he has had,” Tasmania captain Jordan Silk said.

“I’m sure a lot of guys will say there has never been as good a keeper as Tim Paine in Australia.

“Considering his age, the standard of keeping he has been able to maintain has been really incredible.

“He sets a great example with his work ethic for all our guys. We have been incredibly blessed down here and we wish him all the best in whatever he chooses going forward.”

Tim Paine led admirably well for Australia and along with Justin Langer who was head coach then, took Australian cricket to greater heights. However, ahead of the Ashes 2021, he stepped down from captaincy and also took a mental health break following the sexting scandal in Tasmania cricket. He didn’t play international cricket after that but featured for Tasmania.
