SA20 league: Pretoria Capitals thump Joburg Super Kings by 6 wickets; Moves to top of points table

The Capitals suffered a heart-breaking defeat to the Super Kings the night before at the Wanderers, but they were able to recover the next day at home.

In the reverse fixture between Pretoria Capitals and Joburg Super Kings, the Capitals were able to turn the tables with a comprehensive against the Super Kings. Winning the toss and deciding to bowl, the Capitals had a complete control of the match right from the word go.

Chasing 123 appeared to be a mere cake walk for the Capitals with Phil Salt scoring an unbeaten 52 runs from 30 balls. This was Salt’s second half century in the league which ensured a six-wicket victory for the Capitals as they moved to the second spot in the table.

When English opening duo Phil Salt and Will Jacks (34 off 16 balls) stormed out of the gates with a 46-run first wicket partnership in just 3.4 overs, the Super Kings never got the early wickets they needed to defend their below-par goal.

Nortje, Neesham bowl Super Kings out

Earlier, the Super Kings however, got off to a flier of a start by making 70 runs in the powerplay. But as soon as the powerplay ended, the Capitals made inroads back into the match. They picked up wickets at regular intervals in the middle overs.

The Super Kings saw a mighty collapse as they lost their last eight wickets for just 69 runs and were bundled out for just 122 runs inside 16 overs. Captain du Plessis was the lone warrior with 51 runs from 22 balls with 9 fours and 2 sixes. The rest of the batting fell like a pack of cards

Super Kings had no answer to the sheer pace of Anrich Nortje, swing of Jimmy Neesham and the spin of Adil Rashid. Nortje bowled with brilliant accuracy and raw pace and ended with figures of 3/12. Jimmy Neesham too bowled an economical spell of 3/7 which further destroyed the Super Kings.

England International Adil Rashid too chipped in with 2 wickets. This was a clinical all-round performance from the Capitals which also granted them a bonus point that moved them to the second spot in the points table.

Jimmy Neesham was awarded the man of the match for his magical spell of 3/7 which turned the game on its head.
