Riyad Mahrez Joins Al Ahli for £30m From Manchester City

Premier League giants, Manchester City finally made a formal announce for the departure of their winger Riyad Mahrez and his joining of the Saudi Pro League club, Al Ahli for £30m. This contract with Al Ahli will take the Algerian winger until 2027 in Saudi Arabia.

Riyad Mahrez leaves Manchester City after 5 years

The Algerian international had previously joined Manchester City back in 2018 from Leicester City and during his five-year spell with the sky blues, he was decorated with four Premier League titles and was also part of the Guardiola’s squad that won the Champions League as part of the treble last season.

Mahrez departs the Etihad Stadium after making a total of 236 appearance in the sky blue jersey across all competitions, within which he had managed about 78 goals and 59 assists for the Guardiola-led team.

Mahrez previously made a public statement saying that it had been a privilege and honour to play for Manchester City and that he had come to City for the purpose of winning trophies and enjoying football more and now he has achieved much more than he had expected.

Mahrez continued to say that he had unforgettable five-long-years with the club and that he worked with unbelievable players, the best manager in the world and fantastic supporters. He made sure to mention that he made a lifetime worth of wonderful memories.

“Manchester City will forever be a huge and happy part of my life,” stated Mahrez emotionally.

Txiki Bergiristain, the club director of City added his words saying that Riyad had been one of the major factors in their success throughout the last five years and his contribution for the club will never be forgotten, also adding that he was leaving the club with great memories as the wonderful footballer he is.

The club director also added that there were only a few wingers who were in possession of the level of skills and techniques that he has in world football and that everybody at City only wished him the best as he begins a new chapter in his career.
