Over 900 players register for the IPL auction 2023; to be held in Kochi

IPL legend Dwayne Bravo was not among the 991 players who submitted their names.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) revealed on Thursday that the auction for the 16th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will take place on December 23, 2022, in Kochi, Kerala.

The cash-laden league’s season 16 is set to begin on March 25, 2023, and end on May 28, 2023.

A total of 991 players, including 714 from India and 277 from other countries, have registered for the mini-auction, which will take place in the run-up to the second consecutive 10-team season.

Australian players lead the roster of 277 registered overseas players, with 57 Kangaroos signing up for the mini-auction. South Africa (52), the West Indies (33) and England (31) are among the countries having a large number of registered players for the auction.

Meanwhile, 19 capped Indian players have signed up for the auction. A total of 20 players from associate countries have registered for the mini-auction. There will be 185 capped players and 786 uncapped players competing.

The list was issued just weeks after the ten IPL franchises submitted their list of released and retained players.

Here is a list of the many kinds of players who have registered for the mini-auction

– Capped Indian (19 players)

– Capped International (166 players)

– Associate (20 players)

– Uncapped Indians who played in previous IPL seasons (91 players)

– Uncapped internationals who played in previous IPL seasons (3 players)

– Uncapped Indians (604 players)

– Uncapped Internationals (88 players)

Significant omissions.

Dwayne Bravo appears to have bid his final farewell to the IPL (at least as a player). His name was not on the long list since he was released by the Super Kings before to the auction.

Steven Smith and Marnus Labuschagne aren’t on the list. Pat Cummins, Australia’s Test and One-Day International skipper, has also withdrawn. England internationals including Alex Hales and Sam Billings will not play in the IPL.
