“Oh Captain, my Captain” : Quinton de Kock to lead the Durban Giants in the inaugural SA20 league

Quinton de Kock will be donning the captain’s hat in the inaugural South African domestic T20 league for the Durban Giants’ team starting January 2023. He has been a part of the Indian cricketing extravaganza (IPL) representing the Lucknow Super Giants in the current year for the same team owners as Durban Giants.

The flamboyant southpaw was one of the leading run-getters for his franchise in IPL 2022 , where he had scored more than 500 runs at an enviable strike-rate of 150 . He started in the Carribbean League from where he had left off in the IPL scoring 220 runs at a brisk pace.

His exploits as Captain for his national side had been a brief but has always been in the scheme of things in all the three formats, before he decided to retire from the longest format of the game and concentrate on the shorter ones.

The SA20 league is a first of its kind in South Africa and is aimed to be the platform for young and emerging players to showcase their talents. Speaking to the media, De Kock expressed his delight not only for leading the team but also the impact this league would have on both new as well as seasoned players in shaping their careers.

It’s worth mentioning that the teams participating in this league are owned by those who are also the current owners of the IPL teams.
