Neymar Injured: Brazilian star comes off injured in first game against Serbia; know details

Brazil’s world cup expectation took a huge hit on Thursday as their star Neymar Jr came off injured in their very first game of the FIFA World Cup 2022.

Neymar was the heart of Brazilian attack that produced two goals in the game. They stubbed Serbia 2-0 in their opening fixture to have a great start to their campaign.

However, towards the end of the game the glory became gory as Neymar was subbed off at the 80 minute mark and Antony replaced him.

Later it was revealed that the player had suffered a twisted ankle. Following which he was seen in tears while sitting at the sidelines with his team mates. Further, he was also seen applying ice to his injury and limping at times.

Neymar Jr Injury Details

The impact of the injury cannot be stated as yet. According to the Doctor of Brazil’s team, “Neymar has an injury on his right ankle, a direct trauma,” Lasmar said. “Due to the impact from the knee of the Serbian player, we started immediate treatment on the bench.

“He continues with the physio, but now need to wait 24 to 48 hours for a better assessment. There is no MRI scan scheduled, but tomorrow we will make a new assessment. We need to wait and cannot make any premature comments.

“He felt this pain throughout the game, but chose to stay on the pitch to help his team for 11 minutes after his injury. It’s remarkable that he did this.”

Neymar to continue the FIFA World Cup

However, the doctor has confirmed that Neymar would play in World Cup. When asked if Brazil had a replacement in their mind for Neymar, the doctor simply replied, “You can be sure that Neymar will play the World Cup. I am absolutely sure about that. He will play in the World Cup.”

Despite the fact that no definite prognosis have been made on the injury, the doctor is certain that Neymar will continue the world cup. The player is said to be playing with an injured foot and also delivered an assist in the game.

Antony, a teammate of Neymar also commented on the matter. He said that it is definitely a worry to have Neymar injured but nobody knows that extent of the injury yet. Richarlison added that the team’s agenda will be to have Neymar 100% fit for the next game.

Neymar is yet to win a major silverware for his team. Although he was a part of the Confederation Cup winner’s squad in 2013, and also won a Rio Gold in Olympics 2016, but his eyes will be on the most important trophy on the planet: The FIFA World Cup.
