Marcelo Returns to Fluminense after “Forgetful Spell” at Olympiakos

Brazilian and ex-Real Madrid defender Marcelo has signed a brand new contract of two years length with his former club Fluminense. He has also announced that he would be leaving Olympiakos, the Greek club.

Marcelo’s new deal with his former club will take him until the December of 2024, while also giving him an option of extending the contract till the end of 2025, according to Fluminense.

Fluminense took to Twitter to showcase a video of Marcelo’s career and wrote that Marcelo’s home with always be at Fluminense.

Marcelo while talking to the club website said that it was difficult to express what this moment really meant to him and that he had been dreaming of making a return to his origins for many years, a return to the team which has trained him and taught him whatever he knew about football.

Before making a departure for Real Madrid back in 2007 and becoming one of their most iconic players and playing alongside the legend Cristiano Ronaldo, Marcelo began both his youth and professional career at Fluminense.

Marcelo later went on to make a total of 546 appearances during 15 seasons for the European champions, Real Madrid. He departed from Madrid as the most decorated player ever in the club’s vast history of 120 years, taking with him 25 trophies, including five Champions League cups.

Marcelo apparently terminated his contract just five months into it after joining the Greek club in September. Olympiakos made an official announcement for the departure of Marcelo on Saturday.
