Manchester City vs Tottenham Hotspur: Match Preview, Team News, Lineups and Prediction

Manchester City face Tottenham Hotspur as both teams will look to get back to winning ways on matchday 14 at the Etihad Stadium.

Man City dropped points last weekend against Liverpool, whereas Tottenham have lost three games in a row.

Match Preview

After their 1-1 draw against Liverpool, Pep Guardiola’s side have now slipped down to second place, and Arsenal now sit on top of the Premier League table.

Moreover, Klopp’s side ended their 23-game winning run at the Etihad Stadium after Trent Alexander-Arnold scored the equaliser to cancel Erling Haaland’s goal.

In the Champions League against RB Leipzig, City were 2-0 down at halftime. However, Haaland, Phil Foden and Julian Alvarez scored for City in the second half to complete the comeback.

After securing the top spot in Group G of the Champions League, Guardiola’s focus will be on the upcoming Premier League fixtures.

After sitting at the top of the Premier League table without a single defeat, Spurs have now lost three consecutive games and sit in 5th position.

Chelsea, Wolves and Aston Villa all got the better of the North London club, who have now become the fifth club in Premier League history to lose three games in a row after scoring first.

Growing injuries to key players like Maddison, Micky van de Ven and several others have now put Postecoglu’s side in misery.

Nevertheless, Spurs are an opposition that Guardiola has suffered the most against. Since his arrival, he has lost 6 games against Tottenham, conceding 19 goals in the process.

Manchester City team news

Kevin De Bruyne, Stones and Matheus Nunes will be out for this game. However, Mateo Kovacic, who was suffering from a thigh injury and missed the last two games, will be back for this one.

Ederson is expected to return to the first XI at the expense of Stefan Ortega. Whereas Nathan Ake will replace Josko Gvardiol at the back.

Alvarez and Jeremy Doku are also expected to start after their regular good performances for City.

Tottenham Hotspur team news

Rodrigo Bentancur, James Maddison, Micky van de Ven, Richarlison, Manor Solomon, Ivan Perisic, Ryan Sessegnon, Ashley Phillips, Alfie Whiteman and Pape Matar Sarr are all out with injuries for Tottenham.

Cristian Romero will serve the third and final game of his three-match ban. Yves Bissouma is available as he returns from his suspension and will play alongside Lo Celso or Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in midfield.

Brennan Johnson, Bryan Gil and Dejan Kulusevski will join Son Heung-min in attack, who has scored six of his eight Premier League goals this season away from home.

Manchester City vs Tottenham Hotspur: Predicted line-ups

Manchester City (3-2-4-1): Ederson; Walker, Dias, Ake; Akanji, Rodri; Foden, Alvarez, Bernardo, Doku; Haaland

Tottenham Hotspur (4-2-3-1): Vicario; Porro, Emerson, Davies, Udogie; Bissouma, Lo Celso; Johnson, Kulusevski, Gil; Son

Prediction

Manchester City 3-2 Tottenham Hotspur

A mouthwatering clash with goals coming from both sides is expected this Sunday, as the last four league meetings between these two teams at the Etihad have produced an average of over four goals per game.

Nevertheless, it would be very difficult for Postecoglu’s side to beat City. Moreover, their high line and injury concerns means that City have got a upper hand over them.
