Liverpool to sign Man United target Cody Gakpo; know contract details

Cody Gakpo’s current club, PSV Eindhoven, has announced that they have reached an agreement with the Premier League giants, Liverpool.

Hence, confirming that the Dutch international will be moving to the Merseyside club, Liverpool. According to PSV, Gakpo would be travelling to England for the completion of this deal.

The official statement made by the club reads that,

“The 23-year-old attacker will leave for England imminently where he will be subjected to the necessary formalities ahead of the completion of the transfer. Both clubs are not making any announcements about the transfer fee.”

The statement also quotes the Director of Football Marcel Brands, which says that this is going to be a record-breaking transfer for the club PSV.

Gakpo contract details with Liverpool

According to the reports by the British media, the transfer fee for the Dutch international, Gakpo, who plays for Netherlands on country side, is going to be around 40 to 50 Million euros ($43 to $53 million).

Gakpo has proven to be in a fine form this season, where he has scored nine goals and 12 assists in 14 matches for PSV, also registering three goals in Europa league outings.

More essentially, he has also been one of the most crucial players for the Netherlands in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, where they reached the quarterfinals. Gakpo has a stunning run in the tournament with three goals against Senegal, Ecuador, and Qatar.

If comparisons were brought about the contributions to their respective clubs, Gakpo has more goal involvements for PSV than Erling Haaland has for Manchester City.

Liverpool beat Manchester United for Gakpo

Manchester United was one among the other suitors who were courting the 23-year-old Dutch international for the summer transfer window and desired to bring him to Old Trafford.

Gakpo’s international teammate, Virgil van Dijk has earlier spoken charmingly about the winger during the Qatar World Cup. “He is a very good player and a good boy too…What we see in training is what you see on the pitch. There is still so much potential and I hope he can carry on showing it for us. We are very happy with him.”
