Erling Haaland has had a great time out in the Premier League so far. Before the game against Liverpool he had 15 goals in 9 games. However, last night was just not for him and his teammates.

Heading into the weekend game against Liverpool at Anfield, everyone expected Manchester City to end their Anfield Curse.

Considering the low morale of the Liverpool side, it should have been a walk in the park. Haaland was supposed to press on his attacking manner and score goals galore.

But that didn’t happen. In fact, Haaland could hardly be spotted in the game.

Off day for Erling Haaland at the office

It can be called a rare day off for the striker. However, what cannot be overlooked is the manner in which Joe Gomes ensured the Norwegian didn’t get what he wanted: A clear strike on the goal.

Haaland seemed to have left his shooting boots in the dressing room. It took him almost 30 minutes to adjust to the tempo. Still, that was not enough to get him going.

Above everything, it was his foul on Fabinho, that resulted in Foden’s goal being disallowed. That pretty much sums up the bad day at the office for Haaland.

Considering his stats, Haaland only had 39 touches in the game. While it is fairly normal for a player of his caliber to have less touches and still make an impact, it was not the case yester.

Haaland had a total of 6 shots yesterday. Out of which only 4 could find the target. And they too were tamed shots that Alisson could deal with easily.

The lack in potency and connecting passes between Haaland and his fellow player like Foden and de Bruyne resulted in the first defeat for Manchester City.

Furthermore, it also turned out to be the first Premier League game for Haaland where he failed to score a goal.

Manchester City will have to go back to the drawing bord and figure out what went wrong for them. And make amends to it.
