Identity crisis for Jules Kounde at Barcelona? To play as RB instead of CB

This summer Barcelona have indeed had an immediate impact with the signing s they have made this summer with the likes of Raphinha, Lewandowski, Kounde and many more in the list. However, since Kounde has arrived at the club, he been playing in different positions like right back and center back and that was surprising for many Barcelona supporters as they did not expect him to play as RB.

He has also said it any times in his interview that his preferred position to play on the field is as a CB, so it will be interestng to see what Xavi has planned for the Frenchman for the rest of the season cause now that Bellerin has come in, his plans might have changed.

Jules Kounde as right back

However, there is no doubt that when Kounde has been played as a right back,he has done very well and he’s been a very useful member of the squad in that area already. But Xavi has also given him time to play as a CB cause although the Frenchman is starting as a RB but later on in the game he mostly plays in his preferred role.

So far in 5 games Jules has played 310 minutes as a full back and 140 minutes as a center back. So there’s surely a possibility in the future of a pair of him and Araujo until Bellerin gets fully fit is ready to start games week in week out.

However there’s also a possibility that Koude plays like this for the rest of the season cause at the moment Barca onlyhave Bellerin as an outright RB in the tea and Xavi would be expecting from Jules that he should cover that position too if needed. This also indicated that for the next summer, the Spanish giants might be targeting a marquee right back signing for the long term future.
