French Open: Satwaiksairaj Yankireddy and Chirag Shetty defeat Korean Pair Choi Sol Gyu and Kim Won in straight sets to reach finals

The dynamic badminton Duo from India, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty are just one step away from registering another tournament victory.

The Commonwealth Games champions are into the finals of French Open Super 750 badminton tournament. And are looking like a top-notch dup which they are.

They entered the final by registering a straight sets victory of 21-18, 21-14 over their Korean counterparts Choi Sol Gyu and Kim Won Ho in the semis.

It was a very attacking game that brought the best out of the world number 8 ranked Indian pair.

Placed as usually are, with Chirag in the front and Yankireddy at the back, the duo showed great pace and brilliant reflexes to keep out the Koreans from getting a grip over them.

Chirag put in some great blocks and deflections. While Satwik was booming those smashes to unsettle their adversaries. As a result, they never lost sight of their target.

India had a flying start in the first set where they took off to a flier. However, the Koreans managed to catch up with them. And made it 7-7 at one point.

After the midpoint break, Korea took a front seat. They dictated the rallies and managed to get ahead at 16-13. Chirag Shetty was wary of his opponent’s flaws and he exploited them to regain the lead.

Then it was simply some smashes by Satwik that sealed the set for India by 21-18.

The second set was no different in terms of aggression by the Indian shuttlers. They once again took a 7-4 lead in almost no time.

Like the first set, the Koreans made a comeback, but a few unforced errors and some good body returns from Chirag Shetty ensured that they never became threatening.

Chasing the game at 18-12, the Koreans hit some wide shots to serve the win on a platter. Yankireddy accepted it with a booming smash to send the duo to the finals.

They will face off against CY Lu and PH Yang of Taiwan in the final here on the 30th of October.
