Fastest red card in football? Jean-Clair Todibo of Nice sent off in 9 seconds

You must have heard of the fastest goals in the history of football. But have you ever heard of the fastest red card?

Well, Nice’s defender Jean-Clair Todibo might be a candidate for the same as he gets sent off in 9 seconds against his side’s League 1 clash against Angers.

Yes, you read it right; Todibo indeed was sent off right after the kickoff. That, too within 10 seconds. And it was not for some obscenity or pissing off the referee. He was sent off for a reckless tackle on Angers’ Abdallah Sima.

Angers were the team to kick off the League 1 fixture against Nice. And they had an agenda right from the get-go. Hence they came hard on the Nice team who were caught napping by some intricate passing.

Perhaps they would have had the first goal of the game in the very first minute if it wasn’t for Jean-Clair Todibo.

The 23-year-old French professional sensed the danger in Angers attack and decided to recklessly bring down the attacker. The referee had a clear view of the foul. Therefore without hesitation, he presented a red card to Todibo.

Todibo pleads to the referee Bastian Dechepy. But the man in the middle did not doubt in his mind and withstood his decision.

Jean Clair Todibo created history with his actions. Although it’s not something he would be proud of. With this red card, he entered the history books of League 1 to be the fastest booking.

Nice ended up losing the game, though. Their rivals scored a solitary goal right before halftime. And despite being reduced to 10 men themselves, they managed to hold on.

As a result of this loss, Nice and Angers are tied on 8 points and stand 13th and 14th in the league standings, respectively.
