Priyanka Goswami phenomenal performance brings Silver

Priyanka started the race in a very promising fashion. She was leading ahead until the 4000-meter mark. However, with 6000 more to go, she fell behind the Australian Jemima Montag and Kenya’s Emily Wamusyi.

Later, a dash in the last 2000 meters saw her gain an advantage on Wamusyi. But she failed to catch the Australian. And ended up with a silver medal in the race that she completed in 43 minutes and 38 seconds.

She joined the list of Indian medal-winning athletes like Murali Shreeshankar and Tejaswin Shankar with this medal. India now has three medals from walk racing, long jump, and high jump in CWG 2022.

This medal made her the first Indian woman to win a medal in this event in CWG. She is only the second woman overall after Harminder Singh, who won a bronze in the 20,000m event in Delhi.

With this medal, India now has 27 medals to their total tally. This is currently the third medal added to the list by Indian Athletes.
