Brazil and Real Madrid Icon Marcelo’s Contract Terminated by Olympiacos

The legendary defender, Marcelo, who has had a fantastic career back in Spain with the La Liga giants Real Madrid, is now being compelled to leave his newly joined Greek club, Olympiacos, hardly two months after the contract began.

Insiders reported that the Brazilian has failed to live up to the expectations of the Greeks and that Olympiacos are “fed up” with his poor performances in every match. His inability to adapt to his life in the Hellenic Republic after spending a lengthy time in Spain has also been a matter of concern.

The 34-year-old has multiple ongoing fitness concerns that have infested him up to the point that he has not even played 45 minutes in any single game so far, starting not from the starting 11, but from the bench, in every appearance he has had for the Greek giants with a very little contribution for the team.

The Greek team’s manager, Michel, is obviously annoyed and disappointed about the Brazilian defender’s inability to play in form and struggle to bag a spot in the starting 11. This has led to the club management allegedly wanting to abruptly end the highly publicized move that the Los Blancos defender had to Greece.

Marcelo had become a legend in his previous club, Real Madrid. He had been blessed with a very successful career run, where he had won several significant trophies, including six league trophies, while also lifting five UEFA Champions League cups.

Since joining the team in 2007, the 34-year-old defender has gone on to make a total of 546 appearances for the club, thus, deservingly earning his legendary status at the Santiago Bernabeu for the Los Blancos. Hence, it does look like a perfect time for the defender to hang up his boots and retire with the tag “legend” still attached to his name instead of becoming a pushover.
