Bayern Munich Sign Yann Sommer to Replace Injured Manuel Neuer

Bayern Munich have finally signed 34-year-old Switzerland goalkeeper Yann Sommer to replace their star keeper Manuel Neuer after his injury.

This has ended Bayern’s weeks long panicky search for a replacement for their German goalkeeper Manuel Neuer following his injury. The Swiss international has reportedly signed a contract which will see him play for Bayern to 2025.

The club CEO Oliver Kahn had made statements that Yann Sommer is a valuable reinforcement owing to his vast international experience and since he also knows the Bundesliga well for many years.

Kahn also went on to say that he [Sommer] brings everything in order and would be able to contribute immediately to their success and that they were confident of reaching their goals with Yann Sommer.

Germany’s star goalkeeper Manuel Neuer had previously broken a leg during his skiing holiday back in December following Germany’s disappointing exit from the World Cup. He later underwent a surgery which has ruled him out for the remainder of the season.

The 34-year-old new signing by Bayern had earlier helped the Switzerland national team past the group stages in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Sommer has said that he looked forward to his tasks at Bayern, which according him is a “big club with a lot of power”, and he continued to say that he was proud to be a part of Bayern. Sommer also admitted that they had big challenges in front of them.

Sommer might be making his debut for Bayern soon enough this Friday against RB Leipzig. Bayern currently stand at the top of Bundesliga table and are all set to face Ligue 1 giants, Paris Saint-Germain for the knockouts of Champions League.
