West Ham agree £30 million fee with Manchester United for Harry Maguire

West Ham have reached an agreement to sign Manchester United defender Harry Maguire for £30 million. The Red Devils rejected West Ham’s bid of £20 million for Maguire last month.

Harry Maguire ready to revive his career at West Ham?

But now both clubs have agreed on a deal. The Hammers are prepared to pay £30 million for the centre-back, who will be allowed to leave Old Trafford. Moreover, personal terms will be agreed soon between West Ham and Maguire.

David Moyes’ side are seeking reinforcements after selling Declan Rice to Arsenal in a deal worth £105 million. Whereas Maguire hope to revive his career after falling down the pecking order under Erik ten Hag.

The 30-year-old made just 16 Premier League appearances last season, with Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane, and Victor Lindelof preferred in defence. To make matters worst, he was also relieved of the Man United captaincy this summer.

Harry Maguire edges closer to Man United exit

Maguire hoped to stay and fight for his place at United as he has a contract until 2025. But, England coach Gareth Southgate warned him, that he may lose his place in the national team and that he would need to be a regular starter to keep his place with the Three Lions.

The English defender joined United from Leicester for £80 million in the summer of 2019. But after his bad performances and big-money signings like Andre Onana, Mason Mount and Rasmus Hojlund, United need to sell him.

The Red Devils have shortlisted Jean-Clair Todibo of Nice and Benjamin Pavard to replace Maguire. Discussions with Todibo’s representatives have taken place to sign him this summer.

Benjamin Pavard has one year left on his contract, and should cost around £30-£35 million. Erik ten Hag said that he wants squad depth and competition for places to be able to fight on all fronts.

Man United will hope to secure this deal as soon as possible to sign a replacement for Maguire.
