Uthappa says he was forced to sign transfer paper by MI player in 2009

After Yuzvendra Chahal’s statement, an old statement of Uthappa has resurfaced online. In a video conversing with R. Ashwin, Uthappa revealed how he was forced to leave Mumbai Indians.

Robbin Uthappa has been a part of the IPL ever since its inception in 2008. Since then, he has represented around six franchises. With Mumbai Indians being his first franchise.

After a brief outing with Mumbai, the player was seen in RCB colours. And the player, in his conversation with Ashwin, told everyone how he became one of the first players to be transferred in the history of IPL.

According to the Uthappa, he didn’t make a move on his own. Apparently, he was forced to make a move by some seniors in the team.

Uthappa was forced to sign transfer papers

In the video, Uthappa said, “Someone from MI, I won’t name him, had told me that if I didn’t sign the transfer papers, I’d not get to play in the XI for MI.”

He also clarified that it was a depressing phase of his life. “I was going through something in my personal life, and I was completely into depression during my first season with RCB.”

However, it turned out to be a good decision for Uthappa eventually.

Even when he didn’t have a good season for RCB, he moved on from there to Kolkata. He won the IPL title with the Kolkata Knight Riders in 2014. Not only that, but it was one of his best seasons in IPL, as he claimed the orange cap too. Uthappa smashed 660 runs to achieve the feat.

Later he was picked up from the auction table by CSK. And a year later, he picked up another title with the yellow army. He was not a dead rubber in the side, though and made a hefty contribution in the first qualifier against Delhi Capitals to get his side into the finals.  Later in the finals, he helped CSK beat his old franchise KKR to lift the title.

After what has happened with the likes of Chahal and now Uthappa, the fans want to know who it could be. The names need to come out from the Mumbai Indians dugout.

Cricket is a team sport, and no player gets to decide which player is essential for the team and who is not. It should be left to the management. And forcing someone to transfer is not the right way either.

Let’s hope that someone takes the initiative to reveal that player’s identity.
