Tottenham agree deal to sign James Maddison from Leicester City

Tottenham Hotspurs agree deal to sign James Maddison from relegated side Leicester City. The North London club will pay £40 million for the midfielder.

Maddison will undergo his medical tests on Wednesday. He has made 203 appearances for Leicester since joining from Norwich in 2018 for around £20 million.

Since Christian Eriksen’s departure in 2020, Spurs are unable to find a playmaker as good as him. However, now they have signed their new playmaker. He has scored 55 goals and provided 41 assists for the Foxes.

The Englishman also helped the Foxes to win the FA Cup in 2021. He scored ten goals last season for Leicester but was unable to keep his side in the Premier League.

Tottenham have struggled to create in recent years now, and they needed an attacking midfielder like Maddison, who creates danger in the final third.

Newcastle United were very much interested in signing Maddison, and were leading the race to sign him. However, they turned their attention to signing Sandro Tonali.

The Magpies were also in search of an attacking midfielder, as they lacked depth in their midfield. But now, they plan to use Bruno Guimaraes further forward in midfield.

James Maddison is not the only player Spurs have signed this summer. They have also signed Guglielmo Vicario from Empoli to replace the ageing Hugo Lloris. Dejan Kulusevski’s loan move from Juventus has also been permanent.

Their star striker Harry Kane is also on the verge of leaving the club. Bayern have submitted a bid worth €70 million plus add-ons for the striker.

However, it is believed that Spurs have rejected their bid and want more than €100 million for him.

It remains to be seen who leaves and who signs for the North London outfit this summer.
