The Hundred Draft: Babar Azam, Rizwan go unsold – Know Players List, Player Selections, Big Omissions

The squads for the eight teams were all but finalized at a draft on Thursday, with The Hundred set to begin on August 1, shortly after England’s home Ashes series against Australia. Moreover, the Trent Rockets and Oval Invincibles set to defend their respective titles.

Teams had already chosen which players will be retained and released, and on Thursday the teams had a chance to fill out their squads.

The Hundred Draft: Babar Azam’s Omission

Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan may be the prime batters for Pakistan in T20Is, but the duo failed to find any takers at the Hundred Draft. Shaheen Afridi was in huge demand as Welsh Fire brought the left-arm pacer for £100,000. Not only Shaheen but even Haris Rauf will also play for Fire in The Hundred.

Former West Indies captain Kieron Pollard and New Zealand left-arm pacer Trent Boult also were unsold.

Harmanpreet Kaur sets a deal with Trent Rockets

Before the men’s squads were finalised, the first women’s player draft in UK professional sport took place.

India superstar Kaur was picked up by Trent Rockets while her deputy Smriti Mandhana will turn out for Southern Brave in this year’s The Hundred cricket tournament. Moreover, Manchester Originals signed South Africa’s Laura Wolvaardt.

Welsh Fire picked up Sophia Dunkley while her England team-mate Kate Cross secured a deal with Northern Superchargers.
