Sonu Jaglan’s Heroics Lead Gujarat Giants to Third Consecutive Win Against U Mumba in PKL 2023-24

In a thrilling Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) encounter, Sonu Jaglan once again proved to be the star for Gujarat Giants, guiding them to a spectacular 39-37 triumph over U Mumba at the EKA Arena in Ahmedabad on Tuesday. This victory held special significance as it marked Fazel Atrachali’s 100th game as captain for the Giants.

Intense Opening Moments

The match commenced with both teams exchanging the lead in the initial minutes. U Mumba, fueled by a two-point raid from Guman Singh, took a 7-5 lead by the 5th minute. Responding strategically, the Giants introduced Sonu Jaglan in the 7th minute, but the initial attempts were not fruitful. Rakesh HS, however, played a pivotal role, securing a bonus point and executing a running hand touch on Rinku Singh, giving the Giants a narrow lead at 10-9.

A well-executed Super Tackle by Mahender Singh bolstered U Mumba’s lead to 12-10 around the 11th minute. The lead extended to six points as Sonu faced a tackle in a do-or-die raid, and Guman secured another raid point.

As the first half approached its end, Fazel Atrachali showcased two remarkable moments, turning the tide for the Giants. His successful raid against U Mumba’s captain Surinder Singh, followed by a SUPER TACKLE, brought the Giants back into contention at 16-18.

Sonu Jaglan’s Second-Half Brilliance

Sonu Jaglan’s impactful raid point early in the second half leveled the score for the Giants. The game-changing moment arrived as Sonu secured two crucial points by eliminating Rinku Singh and Mahender, reducing U Mumba to a lone defender. Inevitably, the Giants inflicted an ALL OUT, seizing a 23-19 lead.

Sonu continued his phenomenal performance, contributing to a 30-22 lead for the Giants at the 30-minute mark. Despite Guman’s efforts and rapid raids from Iranian all-rounder Amirmohammad Zafardanesh and Pranay Rane, U Mumba trailed at 30-34.

In a nail-biting finish, Zafardanesh orchestrated an ALL OUT against the Giants, leveling the score at 34-34 with less than two minutes remaining. However, Sonu Jaglan emerged as the ultimate hero, delivering a breathtaking three-point SUPER RAID in the final minute. This secured the Giants’ third consecutive victory and marked Sonu’s third consecutive SUPER 10.
