Days after making the world realise his potential, Shubhman Gill has revealed the real motivation and word of advice behind his maiden international ton.

The whole country knows that SHubhman Gill is a star in the marking. And the star opener has shown glimpses of the same from time to time.

Yuvraj Singh’s words of wisdom for Shubhman Gill

Finally, the player scored his maiden century on Monday, as he smashed 130 off 97 against Zimbabwe in the final ODI between the two teams.

In a post-match talk between Gill and compatriot Ishan Kishan, the former opened up about how advice by Yuvraj Singh helped his game. Gill said, “I just met him before coming to Zimbabwe, and he just told me that you’re batting well and just go there and when you’re set, look to bat through. I was telling him ‘100 nahi aa raha’ (I’m not getting that hundred). And his reply was ‘Don’t worry, it’ll come.’”

Shubhman Gill’s struggle for maiden century

Shubhman Gill broke into the limelight from his maiden Test call-up in Australia in 2020. He was a crucial part of the depleted Indian team that won the famous Gaba test to seal the Border-Gavaskar trophy for India.

In that final test, Gill scored 91 runs but failed to score his maiden and well-deserved hundred. After struggling for a while with an injury and finding it hard to get a regular chance in the team, Gill found another golden opportunity against West Indies earlier this month.

However, he couldn’t reach the milestone even in that rain-affected match. Gill was left stranded at 98* as the rain reduced the game to 38 over a side. With this century, Gill also became the third youngest Indian after Yuvraj and Kohli to score a century abroad.

Finally, Shubhman Gill was able to break the two-year-long curse against Zimbabwe. And now has a gigantic century to show for his efforts.
