“I would like to announce that after almost 15 years and 143 games, the time has come to say goodbye to the national team. I would like to thank all the people who have been with me on this long road,” his statement read.

Busquets has been a part of the Spanish set up for nearly 25 years. He had made his U21 debut back in 2008, and in the following year received his maiden callup.

In 2010, he was a part of the Spanish team that went on to win the world cup in South Africa. Later, he also managed to win the European Championship with Spain in 2012.

Although, since that triumph his team has not been able to make their way out of the Round of 16s in FIFA World Cups. And the story of FIFA World Cup in Qatar was no different.

Faced with the formidable foes in Morocco, Spain couldn’t come up with an answer in the regular time as well as the extra time. The game was dragged on to the penalties in which a miserable performance by Los Rojos saw them out of the tournament.

Busquets will continue his club football career. However his future destination in the same is also unknown. There are several reports in the media that suggest Busquets to leave Barcelona.

Only future will tell where the maestro will end up in next summer. But the Spainard can be thankful for the services that he has provided them.
