Sergio Busquets joins Lionel Messi at Inter Miami after Barcelona exit

Sergio Busquets joins Lionel Messi at Inter Miami as a free agent. Busquets turned down big offers from Saudi clubs to re-unite with his former teammate.

The midfielder also had a chance to extend his contract with Barcelona until 2024. As, Xavi forced him to stay another year with the club. However Busquets turned down the offer.

The 34-year-old has already expressed his desire to play in the MLS before.

Miami made the announcement official with a video on social media featuring quotes from Pep Guardiola, Xavi Hernandez, Luka Modric, and Lionel Messi praising Busquets.

Busquets leave Barcelona after 18 years

Busquets came through Barcelona’s academy ‘La Masia’ when Pep Guardiola became Barcelona’s first team manager he promoted him to the first team.

Since then, he has been pivotal for them. He has won nine La Liga titles, seven Copa del Reys, and three Champions Leagues. He also helped Spain win the World Cup in 2010 and the Euro in 2012.

Although, Busquets decided to join Inter Miami. He will sign a two and half year contract with the MLS side.

Busquets departs as Barca’s one of the greatest ever to have represented the club. Since making his first-team debut for the Catalans in 2008, he soared to great heights, forming the golden midfield trio with Andres Iniesta and Xavi Hernandez that dominated football.

His departure has left a big hole in the squad, and the La Liga champions are working hard to find a proper replacement for him this summer.
