Seattle Orcas sign Sri Lanka skipper Dasun Shanaka for MLC 2023

Seattle Orcas, one of the six franchises in the Major League Cricket (MLC), has signed Sri Lanka’s white-ball captain, Dasun Shanaka, for the first edition of the league starting on July 13. The MLC 2023 will feature six teams battling it out for the coveted title.

Dasun Shanaka signs for Seattle Orcas

Seattle Orcas took to their official social media handle to announce the signing of the Sri Lanka star cricketer, Dasun Shanaka, ahead of the MLC 2023. Shanaka played a crucial role in Sri Lanka’s triumph in the Asia Cup 2022 against Pakistan in the UAE.

In his T20 career, the star all-rounder has featured in 183 matches, scoring 3,724 runs, including 15 half-centuries and three centuries. He has also taken 59 wickets in 93 innings.

The franchise also announced the signing of seasoned South African pacer, Wayne Parnell, for the upcoming season. Seattle Orcas made two international signings during the MLC Draft in the form of star cricketers such as Quinton de Kock and Mitchell Marsh.

No home games for Seattle Orcas

Seattle Orcas will not be hosting any fixtures in the 2023 season. The franchise and the league are working with King County and the City of Bellevue to build a Community Park which could host up to 6,000 people in future home games.

Apart from Seattle Orcas, the MLC 2023 will feature five other teams, namely MI New York, Washington Freedom, San Francisco Unicorns, Los Angeles Knight Riders, and Texas Super Kings. The league will see 19 matches played in 18 days, with the championship final scheduled on July 30.
