SA20 Semi Final 2: Markram’s ton helps Sunrisers Eastern Cape beat JSK by 14 runs; They’ll play Pretoria in Final

The Sunrisers Eastern Cape will meet the Pretoria Capitals in the inaugural Betway SA20 final, courtesy of a marvelous century by their captain Aiden Markram. The Sunrisers skipper embraced the occasion and struck a scintillating 100 off just 58 balls in the second Betway SA20 semi final at Centurion that powered the Eastern Cape side to 213/5.

JSK needed 79 from the last four overs, and almost made a game of it – Reeza Hendricks played an outstanding innings, but unlike Sunrisers they were unable to recover from being two down inside the first couple of overs (and yes, they might regret Gerald Coetzee’s 17-ball 12 after he was promoted to open).

SA20 Semi Final 2: Aiden Makram led SEC from the front in a 400-run foot-stomper

Aiden Markram slammed his maiden T20 century, when it mattered the most. Markram came in at No.4 when the Sunrisers were reduced to 10/2 batting first in the SA20 semi final 2 against Joburg Super Kings (JSK) and ripped apart their bowling attack. Markram took his time initially to lower the damage done by JSK pacers and after getting set, he along with southpaw Jordan Hermann put the bowlers on the back foot.

Markram’s first fifty came off 41 balls and the next fifty took just 16 balls as he reached the three-figure mark for the first time in the T20 format. Markram slammed six fours and as many sixes as even though he got out the next ball after getting to his century, he had done more than enough as the Sunrisers got to a mammoth score of 213 runs batting first in a knockout game.

Markram’s family was in attendance at the SuperSport Park in Centurion and seeing him get to his maiden T20 century in a crunch situation, the SEC captain’s father and wife Nicole got teary-eyed. As Markram got to his hundred, more than him, his partner at the other end, Tristan Stubbs, the most expensive player at the SA20 auction roared and could be heard on the stump mic.
