SA20 league: Heinrich Klassen Scores fastest half century to helps Durban Super Giants beat Paarl Royals

Right from calling the toss correctly, Durban Super Giants couldn’t have asked for a better game. Deciding to bat first, DSG’s new opening duo of Klye Mayers and Wiaan Mulder gave the team a perfect start by scoring 62 runs in the powerplay.

Mayers was scored 39 runs from 23 balls and was rightly supported by Mulder with 42 runs from 33 balls. After the blistering opening, captain Quinton de Kock walked in at no.3 and kept the run-rate high. He started playing his shots right from the word go and looked in sublime form.

de Kock was brilliant in his 31-ball 57 runs onslaught with 5 fours and 4 sixes. But it was Henrich Klassen who provided the cherry on top to the DSG innings. He scored the fastest fifty of the SA20 league which is a landmark.

Klassen was clinical in his big hitting and exhibited supreme power and class. He struck three consecutive sixes to power the total to 216/4. Klassen remained unbeaten on 50 runs from just 19 balls with one four and sic massive sixes. This fiery innings from Klassen gave DSG the momentum heading into the innings break.

Eoin Morgan, Dane Vilas put up a show for the Royals

Chasing a mammoth 217, the Paarl Royals got the worst possible start. They were reduced to 63/4 due to some good bowling effort from the Durban Super Giants bowling unit. However, it was Eoin Morgan and Dane Vilas who led the counterattack for the Royals.

The duo put up a fight and were taking the game to a cliff hanger. They were on a 114-run partnership for the fifth wicket but a quick pick-up and throw from Simon Harmer saw the ending of the dangerous Eoin Morgan who was in the mood for an upset. The partnership was broken which was the game changing moment in the match.

Morgan struck a destructive 64 runs from just 37 balls and his dismissal was a price wicket with the Royals left with 50 odd runs to get in the remaining three overs. Morgan’s wicket opened the door for DSG who capitalised on it.

Dane Vilas too perished soon after Morgan for a well made 44 runs from 30 balls as the DSG bowlers further made sure to defend the total. The Royals could manage only 189/8 and eventually fell short by 27 runs which registered their second loss of the season. Reece Topley was the pick of the bowlers for DSG with figures of 3/34.

Heinrich Klassen was awarded the man of the match for his sublime innings which granted DSG their second win of the season.
