SA20 League: Durban Super Giants beat MI Cape Town by 5 wickets to bag first win of season

The Quinton de Kock led Durban Super Giants bagged their first win of the SA20 league on the back of a collective team performance. This win will surely boost their campaign.

Chasing 153, DSG got off to a good start. They were 118/2 and were cruising on before Olly Stone from MI caused some hiccups in the Super Giants ranks by picking up quick wickets.

But it did not last long as DSG had enough batting to take them over the line with 5 wickets remaining with Kemo Paul and Jason Holder remaining unbeaten on 20 and 11 respectively. Kyle Mayers was superb with both bat and ball.

He scored a valuable 34 runs from 23 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes. He was awarded as the man of the match for his all-round performance. Along with Mayers, the rest of the DSG batting clicked well.

Klaasen and Mulder made valuable contributions of 36 and 30 respectively to take DSG to their first win of the season. Olly Stone finished with figures of 4/28 but was not enough to grant MI their second win on the trot.

DSG contain MI to a below par score

Earlier on, The MI Cape Town were under the pump with the bat after being called in by Super Giants captain Quinton de Kock. The star-studded MI batting line-up which demolished the bowlers in their first match, failed to impress with the bat against the Super Giants bowling unit.

The aggressive opening duo of Brevis and Rickelton were dismissed early which denied MI a solid platform.  It was the golden arm of Mayers again which dismissed Brevis on 0 that set the tone for the Super giants. The DSG bowlers bowled well in tandem as they picked wickets at regular intervals in the middle overs.

However, a good 60 run partnership between George Linde and Grant Roelofsen for the sixth wicket took MI to a respectable yet below par score. Roelofsen played a decent knock of 52 runs from 44 balls with 4 fours and a six. Linde provided him good assistance with 33 runs.

Lower order batsman Delano Potgieter’s quick fire 11 ball 25 runs powered MI to a decent score of 152/8. It was a collective bowling performance from the Super Giants bowlers. Subrayen, Holder and Topley picked up two wickets each with Mayers conceding just 10 runs from two overs with a wicket.
