Real Madrid sign Joselu on loan from Espanyol

Real Madrid sign Joselu Mato on loan for €500k fee. He will join Madrid on a year-long loan deal with an option to buy at the end of his loan spell for €1.5m. The Spanish striker will be unveiled on Tuesday at Valdebebas.

The 33-year-old is making his return to Real Madrid. He has already played with Real Madrid Castilla for two seasons, and made his debut for Real Madrid under Jose Mourinho in 2011.

However, he left the club in 2012, since then, he has played in Premier League and Bundesliga as well. He scored ten goals in the Premier League with Stoke City and Newcastle United. After that, Joselu returned to Spain in 2019 and joined Alaves.

This season Joselu scored 16 goals for Espanyol despite their relegation. Only Robert Lewandowski and Karim Benzema had scored more goals than the Spaniard.

His brilliant form for Espanyol earned him a call to Spain’s national team squad for the Nations League.

Real Madrid sign Joselu to replace Karim Benzema

Real Madrid has signed Joselu to replace their star striker Karim Benzema who left the club on a free transfer. Benzema joined Al-Ittihad on a 2-year deal.

The Frenchman was Real’s second-highest scorer of all time. He also won the Ballon d’Or last year.

Los Blancos also kept an eye on Tottenham’s Harry Kane as a possible replacement for Benzema, but Spurs are not willing to sell him.

After Benzema, Hazard, Asensio and Diaz left, Madrid had a depleted attack. However, they have now signed Brahim Diaz and Joselu to reinforce their attack.

The Spanish striker scored a last minute winner against Italy in the Nations League semi-final. He also appeared from the bench in the final against Croatia.

With Joselu’s experience and good form Ancelotti will certainly use him as a key player next season. However, it is to be seen if Real will sign a more reliable striker to replace Karim Benzema.
