Rasmus Hojlund: English legend Alan Shearer concerned about Manchester United’s Danish star; says pressure still on him

Former England International and Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has expressed hic concern on Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund’s form after the Danish broke his duck at their enthralling win against Aston Villa. Shearer has said that the pressure is still very much on the Danish who needs to be consistent with his form.

Rasmus Hojlund- the Danish goal poacher

Rasmus Hojlund has been one of the stars for Manchester United this season. Having joined from Italian Serie A side Atalanta at the start of this season, the Danish was expected to score ample goals and seemed to have been a solution for Erik Ten Hag’s attacking lacunae. But, since joining the Red Devils and having his inauguration at the Theatre of Dreams, the goal scorer went silent, with missed chances and no goals on the offing for him.

With Jadon Sancho and Antony ruled out due to personal issues and ongoing tantrums with Ten Hag (in the case of Sancho), Hojlund was one of the mainstays at play for the boss. But, it felt that due to the escalating pressure on the Danish striker to go for goals, he went on misfiring his chances and was goalless in more than 14 games. But, as they say, if someone keeps on working hard, opportunities are bound to come your way, and Hojlund might have set his foot on his English goal scoring pedal, as he hit the winner against Aston Villa, scoring a world-class goal after 80 minutes, thus becoming a local hero at Old Trafford.

It was a thrilling night at Manchester as they went on to win the game 3-2 after going down to 0-2 within first half, after goals from McGinn and Dendoncker had exposed their defensive frailties once again. But, as the second half commenced, it was rising star Alejandro Garnacho who bagged a brace followed by Hojlund’s winner, as Erik Ten Hag’s brigade finally returned to winning ways after enduring a harsh loss on the road against West Ham.

A rising star on the cards?

Hojlund has been one of the bigger names for Denmark in the international stage. As he scored the winner against Aston Villa, his relief for breaking his goalscoring drought was evident, as he embarked upon a frantic journey in United colors. He celebrated passionately in front of the home fans, which clearly showcased his urge to make big strides for the legendary club.

Premier League’s highest goal scorer in the history, Alan Shearer, might have a different point of view to Hojlund’s goal scoring abilities. He had previously slammed Hojlund’s teammate Antony for not providing enough opportunities to help him find the back of the net. Speaking on Rest is Football podcast, Newcastle legend Shearer said that United’s struggles in front of the goal might cause the club to rely heavily on him.

He said, “Hojlund, who got his first Premier League goal, you could see the relief on his face. I thought he was going to burst when he was doing his celebrations and rightly so because you can imagine the pressure, unfairly at times because we’ve said it, he should be in and out.”

He further added, “He should be learning. He should have a rest one day and back in again. But because of the transfer fee and the situation at Old Trafford he has to play more than he should have been and that’s been tough on him. But the relief that he will have will be huge.”

Hojlund will get the opportunity to add to his tally when United plays against Nottingham Forest in their final game of this year.
