In latest cricket update, Afghanistan’s star cricketer, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, received an official reprimand for violating Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 league match against England in Delhi on Sunday.

Gurbaz’s misconduct was in direct violation of Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel. This article refers to the “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during an International Match.” Such actions are typically penalized in the world of cricket.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz faces official reprimand for on-field outburst during England clash

This incident unfolded during the 19th over of Afghanistan’s innings when Gurbaz, frustrated by his dismissal, vented his anger by aggressively hitting his bat against the boundary rope and an adjacent chair. This conduct not only drew attention but also prompted an immediate response from the ICC.

According to the ICC’s guidelines, a Level 1 breach carries a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, with the potential for a maximum punishment of a 50% deduction from the player’s match fee and the imposition of one or two demerit points. Gurbaz has now earned one demerit point, marking his first offense within a 24-month period. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of upholding sportsmanship and maintaining self-control on the cricket field, especially with the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 ongoing, where player behavior is under close scrutiny.

It’s worth noting that the accumulation of four or more demerit points within a 24-month period can lead to suspension points, which could result in a ban from participating in international matches.

Switching focus to the Afghanistan team, they are gearing up to face New Zealand in the 16th match of the ODI World Cup 2023 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Following their victory over the defending champions in their previous game, Afghanistan’s confidence is soaring, and they aim to give a tough challenge to the runners-up from the last edition.
