Nike decides to drop Mason Greenwood after rape allegation

Mason Greenwood has suffered another massive blow. The American company Nike has decided to drop the Manchester United forward following the sexual harassment case.

The last couple of weeks have been a nightmare for Mason Greenwood. It all started with his ex-girlfriend sharing some gory images on social media.

According to the captions on those photos, the model claimed being physically and sexually assaulted by the 20-year-old footballer.

These pictures went viral almost immediately. Following this, Mason Greenwood was arrested by Greater Manchester Police. In their statement, police said that they have arrested Greenwood on the “suspicion of rape and assault.”

The decline of Mason Greenwood

The news followed by the arrest had a significant impact on Greenwood’s career. He was dropped from the Manchester United squad with immediate effect. The club released a statement mentioning that Greenwood would not represent them until further investigation.

Furthermore, players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Edinson Cavani, and David de Gea have unfollowed him on social media. However, The Sun reports that some players in the United dressing believe that Greenwood is being mistreated. People should wait for the investigation to find it’s natural conclusion.

Greenwood has represented Manchester United in 129 games. He made his debut back in 2019 against PSG at the age of 17. Thus far he has scored 35 goals for the Red Devils. Greenwood’s last appearance came in 2021, in a Premier League game against Brentford which United won 3-1.

Greenwood managed to score in that match as well. He was seen as a star in the making for both, Manchester United and England.

Now even video games companies like FIFA, eFootball and PES removed him from their simulation games.

Greenwood was released on bail last week and is yet to comment on the allegations. Nike, however, released a statement earlier, in which they said: “Mason Greenwood is no longer a Nike athlete.”
