Neeraj Chopra records 88.77 meter throw to qualify for 2024 Paris Games and World Championship; Manu records 81 meters

India’s golden boy has done it once again. This time with a throw of 88.77 meter in Budapest, Neeraj Chopra has qualified for the World Champions Men’s Javelin as well as the 2024 Paris Games.

Neeraj Chopra recorded his fourth highest throw in the history of the sport by crossing the 88-meter mark on Friday. Since the criteria for qualifying for Paris was just 85, the player crossed the line very comfortably.
This was also Neeraj Chopra’s best throw in the season. And he was able to record within minutes of the start of the qualification round. He went on to top the Group A qualification round as well with his achievement.
DP Manu and Kishore Jena eyeing final spot
India might have more than just one athlete representing them in this sport next year as there is another thrower competition in the same competition. DP Manu who finished third in the same group as Chopra recorded a distance of 81.31 meters in his second attempt. He will have to wair for the result of Group B round, to find out whether he makes the cut for the final on Sunday or not.
Kishor Jena, another Indian will be later competing in the group B qualification around. He will also be eyeing the opportunity to make it to the 2024 Paris Olympics.
According to the rules of the tournament, the players who manage to throw 83 meters or top 12 best performers from both groups shall qualify for the finals. They get three attempts in the qualifying around.
Following Chopra, Germany’s Julian Weber sits second with a best throw of 82.39 meters to his name. Furthermore, the defending champion Anderson Peters has the best of 78.49 so far, and is currently placed 7th.
Every Indian will be eying the performance of Manu and Jena. Both have the potential of making it to the finals.
