La Liga: Sevilla pries upon Barca youngster Nico Gonzalez as he nears loan end
Nico Gonzalez, one of the promising youngsters of Barca, who rose up the ranks from La Masia. and was given prominence along with Pedri in Koeman era, is targeted by Sevilla as they look to the midfielder as one of the promising talents to be sought after, in the coming seasons of La Liga.
A promising future
Nico has risen from the ranks in La Masia and played for the first team in the Koeman era. Pedri-Nico were pronounced together, but as Gavi rose to prominence, he slowly became an outcast as the Catalan midfield comprised Pedri, Gavi and Frenkie. In order to prepare him and give him more minutes, Barcelona loaned him to Valencia.
A dilemma for Xavi
In the ongoing season, the midfield duo of Pedri and Gavi has impressed the fans and critics likewise. And on top of that, seasoned veteran Busquets, the skipper is on the fray, and if he decides to stay for one more season before departing for MLS, Gonzalez could be shown the door as he could not be accommodated in Xavi’s plans. He had a breakthrough season in 2021/22 campaign , but gradually injuries plagued him, which made him fall out of favor for Barcelona. Although he has extended his contract up to 2026, but it all depends on Xavi, whether he wants to keep him or sell. Sevilla, on the other hand is looking for a dependable midfield for the future, so he could be a viable option for them.
