Jordi Alba joins Inter Miami after leaving Barcelona

Jordi Alba joins Inter Miami on a free transfer to reunite with former teammates Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets at Inter Miami.

After signing Messi and Busquets, the MLS club has officially signed Jordi Alba. However, he has only signed a one-year contract with an option for another year.

Alba is regarded as one of the best left-backs that Barcelona have ever signed. Moreover, he may not be the only ex-Barcelona player to join the MLS club. Reports suggest that Andres Iniesta can also join the trio now at Inter Miami.

The defender joined Barcelona from Valencia in 2012 for €14 million. The former La Masia graduate won La Liga six times and the Champions League in 2015. He also won the Euro in 2012 and the Nations League in 2023 with Spain.

It was rumored months ago that the trio would like to reunite with each other at Inter Miami. However, both Messi and Busquets denied this.

Messi and Busquets, who have signed deals until 2025, were presented to a cheering crowd of around 20,000 Inter Miami fans at the club’s DRV PNK Stadium on Sunday. Co-owner David Beckham was also present there.

Alba has played 459 matches in all competitions with the Blaugrana and has earned 93 caps for the Spanish national team. The 34-year-old is expected to make his debut against Atlanta United on Tuesday.

Inter Miami’s sporting director Chris Henderson said: “Jordi is an accomplished, dynamic and experienced player that we’re excited to acquire to continue bolstering our squad.”

“He has proven for over a decade that he is one of the best fullbacks in the sport due to both his defensive solidity and capacity to contribute in the attack. We know that he’ll help Inter Miami achieve the Club’s objectives this season and beyond.”
