James Rodriguez, the 2014 FIFA World Cup Golden Boot winner, has become a free agent after his contract with Olympiakos was terminated by mutual agreement.

Olympiakos terminate James Rodriguez contract

The Greek club issued a statement thanking the Colombian midfielder for his services and wishing him success in the future.

Rodriguez, who joined Real Madrid after the 2014 World Cup, had become the third-most expensive transfer in the club’s history. However, he struggled to find his form with the La Liga side and was later loaned out to Bayern Munich, where he won five major trophies, before joining Everton.

Recent moves and struggles

Since then, the 31-year-old has had stints with Qatari side Al-Rayyan SC and Olympiakos, where he scored five goals in 23 appearances before his departure. His agent Jorge Mendes has hinted at a move to Turkey for the midfielder. Rodriguez took to social media to say farewell to the Olympiakos fans, saying that he will always be a member of the club’s family.

Rodriguez rose to prominence during the 2014 World Cup, where he scored six goals and picked up two assists for Colombia, leading them to the quarter-finals in Brazil. After his impressive performances, he secured a £63 million move to Real Madrid but failed to live up to expectations.

His departure from Olympiakos comes as a disappointment for the player, who had hoped to revive his career in Greece. However, he will now have to look for new opportunities to regain his form and establish himself once again as a top-class midfielder.
