Jaidev Unadkat gets called up for Bangladesh Test; likely to replace Mohammad Shami

The injury count in the Indian cricket team keeps mounting by the minute. It seems that they have used up all their resources available at the tour. And hence a new test callup is in order in the form of Vijay Hazare champion Jaidev Unadkat.

Unadkat has been in and out of the side a lot in the past. And this time too he has been called up to fill the space for Mohammad Shami who had been ruled out with a bowling arm stress and couldn’t recover in time.

Earlier this week India suffered another blow in the form of injured Deepak Chahar. He pulled up his hamstring and was ruled out of the series. Further, youngster Kuldeep Sen had a similar fate in terms of injury. Hence too was sent back home along with Chahar, and captain Rohit Sharma.

Jaidev Unadkat played his last and only test game for India in 2010. It came against South Africa in Centurion. Since then, he has been a part of the white ball setup from time to time. The Saurashtra’s limited over captain has 7 ODIs and 10 T20Is under his belt for the blues.

Hence this will be a good opportunity for him. Although it is not a like for like replacement for the team, yet, the bowler has been picked based on his current form. Unadkat picked up 19 wickets in Vijay Hazare, being the highest wicket taker.
Along with that he has good stats in Ranji Trophy over the years. Over the years, he has played 96 matches and picked up a total of wickets at an average of 23.
