The auction is essentially what assures fans about how the teams want to function or combine in the next seasons. Players who were drafted into the auction and those who were not retained are auctioned off in a hall with representatives from all ten teams.

IPL franchises were initially allotted 85 crores, however this season each team will receive an additional 5 crores to work with. In contrast to last season, a mini-auction would be held.

Mini-auction for IPL 2023

There is no limit to the number of players a team can retain or release. Last season, there were retention constraints in the mega-auction, but this will not be the case in the mini-auction.

Mega Auction vs Mini-auction

The number of players a team can retain is limited in the mega auction, which takes place once every quarter. There are no barriers to the mini-auction, which takes place every year. The next auction will be a mini-auction.

The BCCI President Sourav Ganguly said that the sixteenth edition of the IPL will be played in the traditional home-away format, which means that the games will be played across ten venues this time, up from eight before the COVID-19 pandemic, and only three venues for the 2022 season.

The BCCI has also begun planning for the Women’s IPL, which is expected to commence in January next year. Several female cricketers have expressed interest in playing in the Women’s IPL if it gets approved.
